Speculation regarding the Chaney Rezoning Request in Hughesville

I keep asking myself, "How could the commissioners, for one minute, entertain such a ridiculous request by Chaney?"  The rezoning request is inconsistent with the comprehensive plan, inconsistent with the Hughesville Revitalization Plan (which was approved by the commissioners, unanimously), and the inconsistencies and the fact this rezoning would be detrimental to the plan was confirmed by the Maryland Department of Planning.  What gives?

Of course, this is purely speculation on my part, but this is what ocurred to me...The county wants Chaney's property to extend Post Office Road.  There is no money to purchase the property.  What if Chaney agreed to donate that land IF the commissioners agreed to rezone the 150 acres in Hughesville to Heavy Industrial zoning?  That would mean the county wouldn't have to spend a dime on the property and Chaney could sell off the rezoned property in parcels making far more money than the county could ever give him for his property in Waldorf...Again, this is purely speculation on my part, but, it is the only thing that makes sense to me.  If it were true...talk about Hughesville being sold out by the commissioners...

I know it's speculation, but NOTHING would surprise me - If this happens, it would be the epitome of contractor/politician sweetheart deals and and goodness knows what else!!
