My email to the Governor...

Governor,

I would like to commend you on your comments today in Leonardtown and the announcement of Maryland Sustainable Communities Initiative to advance efforts towards smart sustainable growth. Recently, Chaney Enterprises, located in Waldorf, MD, has requested rezoning of 150 acres of AC land to Heavy Industrial. As residents in the area where this land is located, we requested the Maryland Department of Planning review the application. Their opinion was this request to rezone was inappropriate and inconsistent with the county's comprehensive plan, transportation plan and the Hughesville Revitalization Plan. However, we are extremely concerned the county commissioners will approve this request despite its inconsistency with smart growth principles. The owner of Chaney Enterprises, Frank Chaney, feels smart growth is nothing but a "leftover" from the Glendenning Administration. As previously stated, I stand behind you, Governor, on your smart growth principles...will you stand behind the citizens in our opposition to this request for rezoning? If so, please contact the Charles County Commissioners. This is a golden opportunity to urge them towards a sustainable community. Thank you.
