Hughesville planners won't just sit and wait
The Charles County Commissioners approved the Hughesville Revitalization Plan last week, giving the county a blueprint for rescuing the economy of the bypassed community.

For committee member Donna Cave, the process began when the county first proposed Hughesville for the site of the now controversial baseball stadium and entertainment complex. Hughesville residents rallied together to fight the proposition. Many people Cave met during that process became interested in the future of the village.

The HRAC's goal was to create a direction for the village instead of allowing it to slide further into obscurity. Its efforts were driven by these community activists' vision of a vibrant rural community with a walkable main street full of interesting shops and restaurants.

I say leave it alone, fix up the existing center of Hughesville if you want Alexandria or Annapolis MOVE. You know once these corrupted politicians get their special interst involved the town will look like Waldorf. Gee the Developer's are licking their "Chops" Here come drug stores on every corner.

Steve, this is something we will have to be ever-vigilant on. When the commissioners approved the revitalization plan, they did comment on revisiting expanding the PFA. But, there is only so much expanding that can be done before Hughesville could no longer be considered a village. We must unite to ensure we stop that from happening...the revitalization plan, as it stands now, is only meant to "fix up" the existing center. I think the majority of Hughesville residents are on the same page here.
